RONALD MAULDIN Obituary

Ron C. Mauldin, a.k.a Ronnie/Legs/The Great Mauldini, 67, of Coventry, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 1, 2026. He was surrounded by his immediate and neighborhood family.

Born in Richmond, Virginia Ron was a son of the late Clayton and Sarah L. (Thomas) Mauldin.

He was the loving husband of nearly 46 years to Gayle M. (McWilliams) Mauldin. Besides his loving wife Gayle, Ronald is survived by his children, Melinda Kuchta (Daniel), Brett Mauldin (Kayla), and Thomas Mauldin. Grandfather of Lucas Mauldin, Ezra Kuchta, Bentley Kuchta, Hunter Mauldin, and Vera Kuchta . Ronnie was the baby brother of Nancy Weldon, Jeannie Stanley, and the late Michael Mauldin.

Ron (Legs) entered the United States Naval Academy in July 1976 as a member of the Class of 1980.  He was a member of the 28th Company and majored in Ocean Engineering.  Prior to graduation and commissioning, Ron was selected for the Navy's Nuclear Power Program and reported to USS Flying Fish (SSN 673) in March of 1982.  During that tour, he deployed to operational theaters in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea and qualified in Submarines, earning his Gold Dolphins. Ron left active service in 1985 to pursue a career with General Dynamics Electric Boat, a career  which helped shape the US Navy's Submarine Force for over 35 years.

Ron joined Electric Boat in 1985, working on various projects in the Combat Systems on US Navy submarines.  He heavily influenced aspects of the VIRGINIA Class submarine and was a critical part of the team that revolutionized combat systems integration and test.  To those who knew him well, he was known as the Great Mauldini for his ability to work magic on consensus building, problem solving, and getting the job done.  He retired in 2019, leaving his imprint on many people as a coworker, mentor, and friend.

He built his life around people he loved most and never missed a chance to make a memory or share a little wisdom along the way. For more than 20 years, he proudly called Wawaloam Campground his seasonal home, where summers were filled with  campfires, stories and traditions that will live on in memories he helped create. More than anything, he loved teaching his children new skills – whether it was fixing something, building something, or simply showing them how to do things the right way – passing down not just knowledge but confidence and character.
